Century Fund proposed additions to St John's Church, Glebe

Ink architectural drawing from the office of Edmund Blacket and his sons, lettered "Century Fund. Proposed Additions to St John's Church. Bishopthorpe. Glebe.", pairing a perspective of the church with an inset plan of the proposed choir vestry, organ chamber, clergy vestry and tower. The church, at Glebe Point Road and St Johns Road, had opened on 21 December 1870 to Blacket's design, its tower built only to the height of the nave wall. The proposed additions were taken up by Blacket's son Cyril, who added the choir, vestry and porch in 1909 and a bell tower in 1911; the tall tower shown here was not realised in this form. The sheet comes from a Blacket family volume of 94 architectural drawings of suburban Sydney churches, chiefly St John's and its parish buildings, dated between 1869 and 1910.
