{"product_id":"first-glebe-island-bridge-across-johnstons-bay-1870","title":"First Glebe Island Bridge across Johnstons Bay, 1870","description":"\u003cp\u003eBuilt about 1861 to carry traffic to the new Glebe Island abattoir, the first Glebe Island Bridge — also known as Blackbutts Bridge — was a blackbutt timber structure on piles across Johnstons Bay, with a hand-cranked lift span worked from the pair of lattice pylons and cables seen at the near end, beside a gabled cottage. Titled and dated 'Oct. 1870' in the negative at lower left, this albumen photograph is attributed to Charles Percy Pickering; a figure sits on the sandstone rocks in the foreground and another stands at the bridge approach.
