Young men and boys sit on the timber decking of a tidal swimming enclosure walled with vertical timber palings, the water to the right and bushland on the far bank. Several wear singlets and bathing trunks; towels and clothing are placed on the bench and boards. The State Library record identifies the site as the St. Ignatius Baths and the subject as boys and schoolchildren at a swimming pool.
