Looking across the water from Pyrmont toward the Sydney city skyline, with wharves, sheds and moored sailing vessels lining the far shore and a schooner at right in the foreground. The twin towers of the Great Synagogue stand at left, the Town Hall tower at centre and the towers of St Andrew's Cathedral at right. The catalogue dates the view to between the completion of the Great Synagogue in 1878 and the commencement of the Town Hall's Centennial Hall in 1883.
